Hot Hotels with Inspirational Interiors October 03 2016
We were lucky enough to down tools and head off for a few days stay in Budapest recently, checking in to a fab hotel that effortlessly mixed and matched styles against a setting of sympathetic faded grandeur.
Hotels are always great sources of inspiration for any interiors addicts, so we've rounded up a few favourites that brilliantly combine a little luxury with earthy schemes and reclaimed materials, including our escape, Brody House.
Brody House - Budapest
This late 19th century building has survived the destruction of the Second World War and the 1956 Hungarian uprising. Converted into a boutique hotel in 2009, Brody House's eclectic interior plays with different era and styles throughout its rooms and social spaces. Expect to find vintage club chairs, contemporary artworks and peeling plaster throughout.
The Artist Residence - London
Located in Pimlico, a stone's throw from Victoria station, the Artist Residence is a boutique hotel that's big on character. Exposed brickwork is the perfect backdrop for its collection of eye-zinging Pop Art, while reclaimed wood clad walls and the odd antique piece work together with colourful fabrics and leather.
G-Rough - Rome
Squarely hitting some pared back luxury, Rome's G-Rough is a five-storey palazzo-style town house with parts dating back to the 16th century. If you like a little rough with your luxe, this place meets its unconventional brief molto bene.
Rough Luxe hotel - London
Describing itself as a 'little bit of luxury in a rough part of London; a little bit of rough in a luxurious London', the capital's Rough Luxe hotel was given a makeover by designer Rabih Hage and has never looked back. The Grade-II listed property is packed with rare and unusual art and objects for a stimulating yet highly relaxing experience.
Ace Hotel - London
A relative new kid on the block is London's Ace Hotel in Shoreditch, putting some extra 'oo' into the capitals' centre of cool. Classic designer furniture is placed next to bare concrete walls to dramatic effect, and a calendar of cutting edge events makes the hotel a central component of this cultural hub.
Volkshotel - Amsterdam
Situated in a former newspaper's headquarters, Amsterdam's Volkshotel boasts 172 rooms that cover everything from cosy escape to huge hangout. Across every space materials such as reclaimed wood, glass and concrete vie for attention, while design details like in-room wood cabins and floating beds keep things interesting.
