Terms and Conditions
Placing an order
Placing an order is easy: via the shopping cart on our website, or by contacting us with email – email@example.com - or calling us on 07771 560835 to discuss individual requirements.
While we have suggested ‘standard’ sizes on our website which can be ordered directly through the website, all of our furniture is custom made by hand and to order as we do not hold any volumes of stock. We are also happy to make bespoke alternatives to our ‘standard’ sizes with different dimensions and finishes to meet individual needs.
Please read the following information as any orders accepted and quotations we make are on the terms and conditions here. As such, any orders and quotations will be deemed subject to these terms and conditions.
We are happy to offer a quotation for any items. Once we have given you a quotation for any work it will remain valid for a period of 30 days. However, due to any changes in material costs, there may be some small variant of up to 10% on any quotation given. Furthermore, any further changes that are requested after an order has been made may be cause for an additional charge.
We allow a cancellation period of 3 business days and will return any deposit to you. For orders that are cancelled after 3 business days and up to and including 7 business days we will refund 50% of any deposit paid. For orders that are cancelled up to including 8 business days and up to and including 21 days we will return 25% of any deposit paid. For orders that are cancelled after the 21-day period we are unable to issue a refund of any part of the deposit.
As our furniture is made by hand to order, once this cancellation period has ended we cannot accept any cancellations or furniture to be returned following delivery.
We will, however, consider possible exchanges, refunds and replacements due to any faults.
We currently use various types of reclaimed wood.
Our reclaimed pine scaffolding boards are sourced from trusted local scaffolding yards and suppliers. The wood is deemed as no longer suitable to be used on building projects, etc, as through use it is considered unsafe for workers to walk on.
As such, this wood carries the scars, splits and other signs of wear and use that we believe only adds to its character and story. Much of this wood would be destined for landfill if we did not reuse it. Therefore, it has a sustainable and eco-friendly element to it.
The scaffolding boards we use will have a range of characteristics, including marks from metal banding, rust stains, paint marks, saw marks, holes, splits and stains. The wood may also have attained areas of bowing and curvation. Again, we believe this only adds to the rustic and characterful nature of the timber and we aim to keep this appearance, rather than excessively planing back.
As a natural material, the pine timber will have the usual knots, different grains, and occasional thin cracks on the surface. Again, we believe that these natural elements should be celebrated and are what, after all, make wood such a tactile and unique material. However, unless otherwise requested, we sympathetically clean, plane and sand the timber’s surface to create a smooth surface for our tables and benches, revealing its inherent beauty and warmth. With wood used in shelving, we generally select boards that have a slightly rougher or more rugged appearance as it will not be touched with the same frequency as a table. Again, we will sympathetically clean, plane and sand this wood to a smooth finish, unless otherwise requested.
The natural colour and tone of the timber boards may vary. This variance may also be evident in finished pieces as no two pieces of timber are the same. Each of the pieces we make by hand is unique, as will be the timber selected. Therefore, while the images on our website are a good representation of our furniture, each item might be lighter or darker. While we select boards to ensure that they are not defective for their new life, we will choose boards from our current stock at time of order. Such boards may not always be square or have entirely flat surfaces. We allow a certain degree of such character in our furniture, which makes each piece unique.
If you would like to discuss any particular characteristics that you would like to have in your order, please feel free to get in touch.
We also use other wood selected from reclamation yards, including oak and Scotch pine. Much of our current stock was formerly used for the sides and flooring of coal carriages. Again, this wood is subject to the same processes outlined above, in terms of clean, planing and sanding. The result is a smooth surface for practical use, with the character of its former life still retained. Furthermore, these types of wood may have bolt-holes through the surface where it was fixed, or other structural signs of its former use. These holes can be filled if requested, but will be left open unless otherwise directed (we think it adds to their appeal).
As with all wood, changes in temperature and environment can cause movements. While our frames are designed to allow some movement, they may not prevent some of the natural processes that wood will demonstrate, such as drying shakes, opening knots and other cracks. Please be aware a warm and dry environment will make wood contract, while a damp environment can make wood expand. As such, in centrally heated houses or in areas where wood is exposed to direct sunlight or near a radiator or under-floor heating a certain degree of movement should be accepted. We cannot accept these natural occurrences as a basis for a refund, or furniture that has been damaged or dismantled after you have taken receipt of the items.
Access, Sizes and Delivery
Please be aware that it is your responsibility to ensure access into your property and the room where you wish the furniture to be placed.
As all of our furniture is made by hand, there may be very slight variations in size to the dimensions listed on the product pages. If you have any concerns about access or whether a piece of furniture will fit into a preferred location in your home, please ensure that you have carefully measured door apertures, hallways, and other openings that the piece needs to pass through. We cannot be held responsible for furniture that is too large for access to a property. Similarly, once in-situ, we cannot be held responsible for furniture placed on uneven floors, which may cause frames or tops to be placed under stress.
However, access issues can usually be overcome by adapting our existing frame designs or supplying the items disassembled, although there may be an additional cost associated with this. Please do get in touch so we can discuss your required measurements and possible access issues, and make the item to order.
We will contact you to advise of a delivery date at the earliest opportunity and generally give a delivery window of 2-4 hours on an agreed date. We will ensure that our driver has your contact details in case they are delayed and need to call you and advise an ETA.
Please be aware that while our drivers are stout fellows, they will need assistance getting larger items into the property. It is your responsibility to ensure that there is someone at the property to take receipt of a dispatched item and to assist lifting it into the property and location where it is to be placed.
If you are not at the property to take receipt of an item on an agreed date you may be charged for an attempted second delivery.
When you receive your item of furniture, make sure you inspect it thoroughly as we cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage once our courier has delivered.
As our furniture is custom made by hand, it is not generally eligible for a refund, unless when delivered it is faulty or damaged. Similarly, as our furniture is made to order we do not hold any large volumes of stock.
Please be aware that when we do agree to a refund, any returns will be at your own expense, except on faulty or damaged items. The item must be unused, undamaged and its original packaging. When returning goods to us, if you decide to use your own courier service we would ask you to opt for tracked or recorded delivery with additional insurance if necessary. We cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to items being returned to us.
Once any returned item has inspected we will notify you of its successful return. Assuming that it is returned in the condition outlined above your refund will then be processed.
With fully commissioned items, we are unable to accept returns or offer a refund.
We generally ask for full payment to be made at time of order, however, for items over £1,000 we are happy to accept a deposit of 50% from you with the remaining balance of 50% to be paid when your order is complete and ready to be delivered.
Our lead-time for our handmade furniture is approximately 6-8 weeks from order to delivery. We cannot be held responsible for circumstances outside our control that may cause this period to increase. However, if you need an item before our standard lead-time period we will endeavour to meet your needs, but cannot guarantee earlier delivery.
